Zrenjanin's air quality reflects the flat Vojvodina plain in central Serbia, with vehicle traffic on the surrounding road network and agricultural processing and manufacturing industry contributing local sources. Winter residential wood and coal burning generates elevated PM2.5, while the flat Pannonian plain generally allows reasonable wind dispersal on most days and temperature inversions concentrate urban and industrial emissions across the low-lying Bega-Tamiš river corridor during extended winter anticyclonic periods.
