Novi Sad's air quality reflects its position in the Danube floodplain in the flat Vojvodina plain, with vehicle traffic on the E75 and the surrounding food processing and manufacturing industry contributing elevated PM2.5 alongside the primary vehicle NOₓ sources. The Danube river corridor provides ventilation, while winter residential wood and coal burning generates seasonal PM2.5 elevation, and the flat Pannonian plain generally allows reasonable wind dispersal on most days throughout the year.
