Valjevo's air quality reflects the Kolubara river valley in western Serbia, with vehicle traffic on the A4 and surrounding manufacturing and agricultural operations contributing local sources. Winter residential wood and coal burning generates elevated PM2.5 under frequent temperature inversions in the enclosed valley, while the surrounding Maljen, Povlen, and Medvednik mountain ridgelines create significant topographic enclosure that concentrates heating and vehicle emissions during extended winter anticyclonic periods.
