Sombor's air quality reflects the flat Vojvodina Bačka plain in northwestern Serbia near the Croatian and Hungarian border, with vehicle traffic on the M25 and surrounding agricultural processing and manufacturing industry contributing local sources. Winter residential wood and coal burning generates elevated PM2.5, while the flat Pannonian plain generally allows reasonable dispersal on most days and the Bačka agricultural region's flat terrain and consistent winds provide generally moderate conditions throughout the year.
