Novi Pazar's air quality faces significant challenges in the Raška river valley in the Sandžak highland of southwestern Serbia, with residential coal and wood burning generating elevated PM2.5 under frequent winter temperature inversions combined with vehicle traffic on the M22. The surrounding Pešter plateau and the Rogozna and Golak mountain ridgelines create topographic enclosure that concentrates heating emissions during winter anticyclonic periods in this historically significant city.
