Lazarevac's air quality faces significant challenges from the TENT Nikola Tesla coal-fired power station, one of Serbia's largest electricity generating complexes generating elevated SO₂ and PM2.5 alongside the Kolubara Basin coal mining operations. The flat Pannonian plain to the north provides some dispersal, while winter temperature inversions concentrate power station plumes and urban emissions and the Šumadija hills create partial topographic enclosure throughout the year.
