The Top End capital's air quality is dominated by the seasonal 'haze season', when savanna burning smoke blankets the region from around June to October, contrasting with the wet season's high humidity and mould, and the pre-wet 'build-up' months of October–November, which bring dust and oppressive stillness. This haze typically peaks through the cooler, drier months before clearing ahead of the wet season's onset around November. High humidity, frequent thunderstorms and mould risk characterise the wet season itself, while sea breezes off the Timor Sea generally provide reasonable ventilation across the harbour-side city outside these haze and build-up periods.
