Local Environmental Conditions
The center of Marlow sits among a blend of woodland and built-up land, plus some open grassland. Common allergenic trees nearby include oak, ash and maple. Grasses and weeds such as plantain and mugwort round out the local mix. In the built-up parts of the area, street trees, gardens and park lawns add to the local mix.
Tree pollen peaks in late spring, when the weather warms to around 15°C and oak, ash and maple are in full flower. Grasses take over in early summer and keep pollen in the air into late summer. The season closes with plantain and mugwort from late spring into late summer. By late fall, as temperatures fall to around 10°C, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Marlow come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Marlow based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Marlow, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
