Local Environmental Conditions
Built-up land and open grassland share the area around the center of Guiseley, plus a good deal of woodland. Of the trees nearby, maple, willow and oak are the ones that matter most for allergies. Grasses also feature strongly, alongside plantain and pigweed among the weeds. In the built-up parts of the area, street trees, gardens and park lawns add to the local mix.
Maple, willow and oak lead the season in mid-spring, as temperatures climb to around 5°C, and tree pollen reaches its peak. Grasses take over in midsummer, with temperatures around 15°C, and their pollen lingers into late summer. Later, plantain and pigweed keep weed pollen in the air from late spring into late summer. By late fall, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Guiseley come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Guiseley based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Guiseley, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.

The 0–100 pollen scores represent risk levels, not direct pollen measurements. Higher scores indicate higher risk.
