Local Environmental Conditions
Built-up land and open grassland share the area around the center of Attleborough, plus a good deal of woodland. With this much woodland around, trees are an important local pollen source. Grasses are also a significant pollen source here. Street trees, private gardens and mown lawns add to local pollen in the more built-up surroundings.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in mid-spring. Grasses take over in early summer, with temperatures around 15°C, and their pollen lingers into early fall. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from midsummer into mid-fall. Mold spores join in through summer, when damp, warm spells let them thrive. By late fall, as temperatures fall to around 10°C, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Attleborough come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Attleborough based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Attleborough, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
