Vikøyri is a small Sognefjord village in Vik municipality where birch, alder, and orchard vegetation along the inner fjord shore are the main local pollen sources. The enclosed inner Sognefjord setting concentrates pollen under calm conditions, while the relatively dry Vik microclimate means fewer rainfall interruptions than in the outer fjord areas and birch peaks through April and May before grass contributes through June and July.

Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.

Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
