Occupying the Toten plateau west of Lake Mjøsa near the Randsfjord, Vestre Toten opens the pollen season with hazel from January before birch peaks through April and May. Grass from surrounding farmland peaks through June and July before mugwort extends exposure into September. The relatively open Toten plateau allows pollen to disperse, while the Randsfjord moderates lakeside temperatures and the inland continental climate produces a well-defined seasonal progression throughout.
