Vågåmo is a small Innlandet village in Vågå municipality in the Ottadalen valley where birch, hazel, and valley farmland vegetation are the main local pollen sources. The enclosed Ottadalen valley concentrates pollen under calm conditions, while the relatively dry inland continental climate means fewer rainfall interruptions than in western Norway and birch peaks through April and May before grass from surrounding mountain farmland contributes through June and July.

Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.

Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
