Svortland is a small Vestland village in Bømlo municipality on the Bømlo island in the outer Hardangerfjord where birch, hazel, and island farmland vegetation are the main local pollen sources. The North Sea island position means onshore winds can frequently disperse pollen, while the Atlantic Vestland oceanic climate advances the season and birch peaks through April and May before grass from surrounding Bømlo farmland contributes through June and July and mugwort extends into September.
