Occupying the very dry upper Ottadalen valley approaching Jotunheimen, Skjåk opens the pollen season with hazel from February before birch peaks through April and May. Grass from surrounding mountain farmland peaks through June and July before mugwort extends exposure into September. The very dry enclosed inner Ottadalen valley means minimal rainfall interruptions, while the elevated mountain valley concentrates pollen under calm conditions throughout.
