Tucked into the extremely narrow Modalen valley deep in the Vestland interior, Modalen opens the pollen season with hazel and alder from February before birch peaks through April and May. Grass from surrounding farmland peaks through June and July before mugwort extends exposure into September. The extremely enclosed valley concentrates pollen very effectively under calm conditions, while the very wet Atlantic climate provides very frequent rainfall interruptions throughout.
