Mo i Rana is a small Nordland industrial town in Rana municipality at the head of the Ranfjord where birch, alder, and fjord valley woodland are the main local pollen sources. The enclosed Ranfjord head valley concentrates pollen under calm conditions, while the subarctic Atlantic climate provides regular rainfall interruptions and birch peaks through May before grass from surrounding Rana farmland contributes through June and July throughout this Nordland steel industry town.

Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.

Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Mo i Rana, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
