Spread across the vast Finnmark plateau and highland, Kautokeino opens one of Norway's most remote and compressed pollen seasons with birch very briefly from late May. Sparse grass from surrounding tundra and reindeer pasture contributes through June and July, while the very continental subarctic highland climate means minimal rainfall interruptions and the extremely brief Arctic summer severely limits pollen production throughout this large reindeer herding municipality.
