Havøysund is a small subarctic Finnmark coastal fishing village in Måsøy municipality on Havøya island where birch scrub, coastal heath, and tundra vegetation are the main local pollen sources. The Barents Sea island position means strong onshore winds very frequently disperse pollen, while the Arctic oceanic climate produces an extremely compressed season with birch peaking very briefly through late May and June before sparse grass contributes through July.
