Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around the center of Dokka is woodland, with some built-up land. Willow is the most prominent allergenic tree nearby, with birch and alder also present. Grass pollen is plentiful, while plantain and mugwort lead among the weeds. In the built-up parts of the area, street trees, gardens and park lawns add to the local mix.
First to flower is alder, in mid-spring. Tree pollen peaks in late spring, when the weather warms to around 5°C and willow and birch are in full flower. Grasses take over in midsummer and keep pollen in the air into late summer. The season closes with plantain and mugwort through summer. Rain is heaviest in summer, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels.

Does pollen in Dokka come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Dokka based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Dokka, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
