Set beside the Aurlandsfjord and the UNESCO Nærøyfjord arm of the Sognefjord, Aurland opens the pollen season with hazel and alder from February before birch peaks through April and May. Grass from surrounding farmland peaks through June and July before mugwort extends exposure into September. The enclosed inner fjord setting concentrates pollen under calm conditions, while the relatively dry inner fjord microclimate means fewer rainfall interruptions throughout.
