Årdalstangen is a small Vestland village in Årdal municipality at the innermost Sognefjord where birch, hazel, and inner fjord farmland vegetation are the main local pollen sources. The enclosed innermost Sognefjord setting concentrates pollen very effectively under calm conditions and the fjord industrial town setting limits local vegetation, while the relatively dry inner fjord microclimate means fewer rainfall interruptions than in outer fjord areas and birch peaks through April and May.
