Set at the innermost Sognefjord industrial fjord head, Årdal opens the pollen season with hazel and alder from February before birch peaks through April and May. Grass from surrounding farmland peaks through June and July before mugwort extends exposure into September. The enclosed innermost Sognefjord and industrial valley setting concentrates pollen under calm conditions, while the relatively dry inner fjord microclimate means fewer rainfall interruptions than in outer fjord areas throughout.
