Reaching into the upper Tovdal valley of inland Aust-Agder, Åmli opens the pollen season with hazel from January before birch peaks through April and May. Grass from surrounding farmland peaks through June and July before mugwort extends exposure into September. The enclosed inland Agder valley concentrates pollen under calm conditions, while the relatively dry continental climate means fewer rainfall interruptions than in coastal Agder municipalities throughout.
