Wodonga sits on the Murray River floodplain opposite Albury, where river red gum forest lines the waterway amid box-ironbark woodland and grazing and cropping land typical of the upper Murray region. River red gum forest along the Murray floodplain supports significant waterbird habitat, particularly around the Gateway Island and Wonga wetlands precinct, while box-ironbark woodland on the surrounding low hills gives way to more intensive grazing and cropping land further from the river corridor.

A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.

Are pollen levels in Wodonga based on measurements or forecasts?

Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.

This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
