Forster's coastal heathland and wallum vegetation, protected in pockets of Booti Booti National Park, feature banksia, tea-tree and coastal eucalypt woodland typical of the Great Lakes region. Wallis Lake's foreshores support paperbark and casuarina stands alongside residential plantings of native and introduced species. This coastal heath-and-lake environment gives Forster a pollen mix centred on native trees and shrubs, with pasture grasses confined mostly to cleared rural land further inland.

When is pollen season in Forster?
Forster's mid-north coast setting on Wallis Lake gives it a milder, sea-breeze-moderated pollen season than inland NSW. Coastal eucalypts, banksia and wattle flower from August, with the surrounding wallum heath and Booti Booti National Park contributing native pollen through spring. Grass pollen builds more gradually here than inland, peaking October to December, and onshore breezes off the Tasman Sea help disperse pollen more than in landlocked towns, though warm offshore winds ahead of storms can still trigger localized spikes.
How often is the Forster pollen forecast updated?

The Forster pollen forecast is updated four times daily. See the timestamp below for the most recent update.

Does pollen in Forster come from nearby or far away?

Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.

Are pollen levels in Forster based on measurements or forecasts?

Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.

Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Forster, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.

This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
