Local Environmental Conditions
Torquay's coastal reserves support moonah woodland, banksia and coastal tea-tree scrub along the dunes toward Bells Beach and Point Addis, with remnant heathland behind the beaches contrasting with cleared grazing land inland toward the Surf Coast hinterland. Coast wattle and spinifex grasses stabilise the frontal dunes, while further inland, cleared volcanic plains grassland gives way to the messmate and manna gum forests of the Otway Ranges foothills, a noticeably wetter, more forested landscape than the drier plains stretching north toward Geelong.
