This Surf Coast surfing town enjoys consistently clean air thanks to strong, near-constant onshore winds off Bass Strait, with minimal industry and comparatively light traffic outside peak holiday periods; the main variable is smoke drifting from the forested Otway hinterland during bushfire season. Spring and summer bring a moderate grass pollen season typical of coastal Victoria, generally tempered by the strong onshore breezes. Traffic during peak surfing and holiday periods, particularly around Easter and summer school holidays, is the main local source of vehicle emissions, otherwise heavier industry and agriculture are notably absent from this stretch of coast.
