Local Environmental Conditions
This Whitsundays resort island supports hoop pine and eucalypt woodland on its hills, mangroves in sheltered bays, and landscaped tropical gardens with bougainvillea and palms around the developed resort areas. Denser vine thicket pockets shelter in gullies on the island's undeveloped ridgelines, with fringing reef visible offshore and mangrove-lined bays sheltering the marina precinct. Ornamental frangipani, hibiscus and flowering shrubs soften the resort precinct itself, a cultivated tropical contrast to the drier native bushland covering the island's steeper, less accessible slopes.
