Local Environmental Conditions
Harbourside inner suburb facing the Timor Sea, dominated by tropical parkland trees — African mahogany, poinciana and frangipani — alongside remnant monsoon vine thicket near the coast. Casuarina fringes stretches of foreshore, and mangrove communities occupy tidal flats to the east. The wet-season buildup brings a surge in tree and grass pollen, while the dry season sees reduced but persistent savanna eucalypt and grass activity.
Fannie Bay's coastal position in inner Darwin follows the tropical monsoon pattern, pollen present in some form for most of the year, with grass pollen from the suburb's parks and sportsgrounds building through the dry season from May to October, and tree pollen from eucalypt and paperbark opening later in the dry, around August-October. The wet season from November to April brings heavy rain that washes pollen from the air.
