El Paso's Chihuahuita air quality reflects the historic South El Paso neighbourhood adjacent to the US-Mexico border crossing, with vehicle traffic on the Bridge of the Americas international port of entry generating some of El Paso's highest concentrated diesel NOₓ and PM2.5 from border crossing freight vehicles. Cross-border industrial emissions from Ciudad Juárez add additional burden, while the flat Rio Grande valley's calm conditions can concentrate border crossing vehicle emissions under inversion episodes throughout the year.

Gulf Coast humidity and inland heat can each add their own seasonal pollution patterns.

Are air quality levels in Chihuahuita based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere.
