Rush-hour queues near the A38 are usually when readings climb the most. Much Wenlock sits within Shropshire, and its air quality profile is driven mainly by road traffic and the density of the centre. The dominant maritime airflow usually ensure decent dispersal, so levels generally stay within the moderate range typical of UK towns.

Is air quality bad in Much Wenlock right now?
On 9 August 2026, overall air quality in Much Wenlock is fair. PM1 is the main pollutant at 25.0/100. Pollution peaks around 5:00 AM (NO2: 50.0/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Much Wenlock?
On 10 August 2026, air quality conditions in Much Wenlock will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at fair at 27.7/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 AM (NO2: 27.7/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Much Wenlock?
You can roughly predict Much Wenlock's air quality just by knowing the time of year. Come winter, NO₂ and PM2.5 usually creep up, as heating and calmer air let A38 traffic emissions linger rather than disperse. In summer, ozone can build up on sunny afternoons, though windier, warmer weather usually helps clear traffic-related pollution faster than in winter. Spring and autumn tend to be the calmer, more moderate stretches by comparison.
Are air quality levels in Much Wenlock based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
Why doesn’t the forecast always reflect wildfire impacts?
Airmine’s forecast uses CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) as its background atmospheric model. While CAMS includes wildfire emissions, these are derived from satellite observations and are not available in real time. During rapidly evolving wildfire events, there may therefore be a delay before increased emissions are incorporated into the model. As a result, the forecast may temporarily underestimate PM₂.₅ and other pollutants associated with wildfire smoke.
During rapidly evolving wildfire events, CAMS may lag by approximately 1–2 days before increased wildfire emissions are fully represented, which can lead to temporary underestimation of PM₂.₅ concentrations in Airmine’s forecast.
