Stalowa Wola's air quality faces significant challenges from the Huta Stalowa Wola steelworks, one of Poland's remaining significant steel operations generating elevated PM2.5, SO₂, and heavy metals alongside vehicle traffic on the S19 expressway. The surrounding Subcarpathian Rzeszów Basin provides reasonable dispersal on most days, while the steel plant's industrial scale and residential coal burning during winter maintain elevated readings above typical Polish regional city levels throughout the year.
