Jelenia Góra's air quality faces significant winter challenges in the Jelenia Góra basin surrounded by the Karkonosze and Rudawy Janowickie mountain ranges in the Sudeten foothills, with residential coal and wood burning generating elevated PM2.5 under frequent winter temperature inversions. The surrounding mountain ridgelines create severe topographic enclosure, while vehicle traffic on the A18 and S3 contributes locally and summer conditions are considerably better with mountain ventilation providing cleaner air.
