Głogów's air quality faces significant challenges from the KGHM Polska Miedź Głogów copper smelter, one of Europe's largest copper smelting operations generating elevated SO₂, lead, and heavy metal PM2.5 alongside vehicle traffic on the A18 motorway. The flat Lower Silesian plain provides reasonable wind dispersal on most days, while the copper smelter's industrial scale makes Głogów Poland's most copper smelting-defined urban environment alongside neighbouring Lubin throughout the year.
