Arnhem's air quality reflects its position in the Gelderse Vallei at the Rhine-IJssel river confluence in the Netherlands-Germany border region, with vehicle traffic on the A12 and A50 motorways and the surrounding industrial and logistics corridor contributing local sources. The flat Rhine-IJssel floodplain generally provides reasonable wind dispersal, while the broader Rhine-Ruhr industrial corridor's background pollution elevates baseline PM2.5 and NO₂ and prevailing westerlies carry Atlantic air across the Arnhem-Nijmegen corridor on most days.
