Winter residential wood and coal burning generates elevated PM2.5, while the Pindus Mountains to the west and the Olympus range to the east create the basin's partial topographic enclosure, and summer ozone from agricultural and vehicle emissions under anticyclonic conditions is the primary warm-season concern.
