Tyrnavos' air quality reflects its position in the Thessaly plain near Larissa, with the flat Thessalian basin providing reasonable wind dispersal but the surrounding Olympus, Kissavos, and Pindus mountain ranges creating partial topographic enclosure. Vehicle emissions from the E92 national road and agricultural dust and burning from the surrounding cotton, tobacco, and cereal farming operations are the primary local sources, while dry season agricultural burning contributes seasonal PM2.5 across the entire Thessaly basin.
