Kavála's air quality reflects the Gulf of Kavala coastal position in northeastern Greece, with vehicle traffic on the E90 motorway and the surrounding tobacco processing and port operations contributing local sources. The Aegean sea breezes provide maritime ventilation along the coast, while the Drama-Serres plain to the north and the surrounding Rhodope foothills create topographic variation and agricultural burning from surrounding tobacco farming contributes seasonal PM2.5 variation throughout the year.
