Kalamariá's air quality reflects the Thessaloniki metropolitan area's eastern coastal corridor on the Thermaic Gulf, with vehicle traffic on the surrounding Thessaloniki ring road and the dense urban residential character contributing elevated NOₓ alongside the broader metropolitan industrial background. Thermaic Gulf sea breezes provide periodic ventilation, while the enclosed Thessaloniki basin concentrates all metropolitan emissions under winter temperature inversions throughout the heating season.
