Aigáleo's air quality reflects the western Athens metropolitan basin, with vehicle traffic on the A6 motorway and the surrounding dense urban industrial and residential character generating elevated NOₓ under the enclosed Attica basin's persistent temperature inversions. The Poikilion mountain ridge to the northwest provides topographic variation, while the Attica basin's characteristic enclosed geometry concentrates all metropolitan emissions across this western Athens district throughout the year.
