Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around the center of Amadora is built-up land, with some open grassland and woodland. Close to the Jamor River, riverside trees such as poplar add to local tree pollen. Oak heads the list of allergenic trees nearby, ahead of olive. Grasses also feature strongly, alongside plantain and pigweed among the weeds.
Tree pollen peaks in early spring, when the weather warms to around 15°C and oak and olive are in full flower. Then come the grasses, strongest in late spring and fading by early fall. Plantain and pigweed flower through much of the warmer half of the year. In warm, humid weather from late spring into mid-fall, mold spores add to the mix, especially after rain.

Does pollen in Amadora come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Amadora based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Amadora, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
