Almada's air quality reflects its position on the southern Tagus estuary bank opposite Lisbon, with the Tagus Estuary providing Atlantic westerly ventilation from the river corridor but the Siderurgia Nacional steel legacy and vehicle traffic on the A2 contributing elevated industrial and traffic emissions. The Arrábida Natural Park's forested hills to the southeast provide a clean-air backdrop, while prevailing northwesterly Tagus winds generally carry Lisbon's urban emissions southward toward the Almada-Seixal shoreline on most days.
