Førde is a small Vestland town in Sunnfjord municipality at the head of the Førdefjord where birch, alder, and valley woodland are the main local pollen sources. The fjord head setting concentrates pollen under calm conditions, while the very wet Atlantic western Norwegian climate provides very frequent rainfall interruptions and birch peaks through April and May before grass from surrounding farmland contributes through June and July throughout this Sunnfjord regional centre.

Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.

Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
