Surubim lies in the Pernambuco Agreste north of Caruaru as a commercial hub, where native caatinga scrub, Atlantic Forest remnants, and eucalyptus are the main pollen sources. The semi-arid climate produces a compressed wet season from April to August, while the long dry season concentrates pollen production and the northeastern plateau landscape allows pollen to disperse widely throughout.
