Local Environmental Conditions
This area, not far from here, has the riverbank shelters river oak, whose pollen spreads readily on the wind from spring onward. Located close to home here, this area has forest where eucalypt and wattle share the canopy and margins, wattle driving most of the seasonal pollen spike. A park where mown turf grass and ornamental plane trees add to local grass and tree pollen, in the wider area.
River oak by the water is typically first out of the gate, building through the depths of winter into September. Eucalypt and wattle in the woodland come next, as wattle bursts into flower, usually peaking from August into October. Spring brings rising grass pollen that crests in November, before continuing at a lower but still notable level through January and February.

Does pollen in Waverton come from nearby or far away?

A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Waverton based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Waverton, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.

The 0–100 scores represent risk levels, not direct measurements of pollen or air pollutant concentrations. Higher scores indicate higher risk. Pollen and air quality use different thresholds.
