Local Environmental Conditions
The area around the heart of Victoria Valley is largely open grassland. Grass pollen adds noticeably to the overall load. Roadside verges and patches of open ground provide further room for grasses and weeds. Pollen also travels on the wind, so vegetation in the wider surroundings adds to local levels as well.
Then come the grasses, strongest in early summer and fading by late summer. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. Rain is heaviest in spring, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels. By midwinter, as temperatures fall to around 10°C, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Victoria Valley come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Victoria Valley based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Victoria Valley, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
