Local Environmental Conditions
Open water makes up around 46% of the area near the center of Umagico, with a good deal of woodland. So much tree cover makes trees an important source of pollen locally. Beyond the trees, grasses matter a great deal, and pigweed is the main weed source. Gaps in the canopy, trails and forest edges give grasses and herbs room to grow.
With warm weather all year, between about 25°C and 30°C, pollen is present in most months rather than in one short season. The drier stretch around August to October usually brings the most pollen. During the rainy season, frequent heavy downpours wash much of the pollen out of the air. Mold spores are in the air most of the year too, rising after rain.

Does pollen in Umagico come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Umagico based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Umagico, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.

The 0–100 pollen scores represent risk levels, not direct pollen measurements. Higher scores indicate higher risk.
