Local Environmental Conditions
The area around the center of Tantangara is heavily wooded, with a good deal of open grassland. Close to a watercourse, riverside vegetation contributes to what is in the air. So much tree cover makes trees an important source of pollen locally. Grass pollen is significant here, and plantain contributes weed pollen.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in mid-spring. Grasses take over in early summer, with temperatures around 15°C, and their pollen lingers into midsummer. Plantain brings a final peak from late spring into late summer. Rain is heaviest in spring, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels. By late fall, as temperatures fall to around 10°C, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Tantangara come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Tantangara based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Tantangara, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
