Local Environmental Conditions
The landscape around the center of Sargood is heavily wooded. Along running water nearby, trees, shrubs and reeds grow in the damper ground and add their own pollen. With this much woodland around, trees are an important local pollen source. Grasses also feature strongly, alongside plantain among the weeds. Gaps in the canopy, trails and forest edges give grasses and herbs room to grow.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in mid-spring. Then come the grasses, strongest in early summer and fading by late summer. The season closes with plantain from late spring into late summer. Rain is heaviest in spring, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels. By early winter, as temperatures fall to around 5°C, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Sargood come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Sargood based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Sargood, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.

The 0–100 pollen scores represent risk levels, not direct pollen measurements. Higher scores indicate higher risk.
